Ronald Chaves, 83, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on November 15, 2016.
Ron was born in the Bronx in New York and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts as one of two children. As a young man, he helped raise his brother and worked a variety of jobs including scallop fisherman. He served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955 before obtaining his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Ron then moved to Baton Rouge to pursue his career in the chemical industry. He was employed by Ethyl Corporation and then Georgia Gulf Corporation in Plaquemine, LA until his retirement in 1996. He married his wife, Lois, in 1974 and settled in the Sherwood Oaks subdivision off of Coursey Boulevard where they raised their two children Summer and Ryan. In addition to being an extremely devoted husband and father, Ron was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and an avid card player including canasta, bridge, poker, and gin. One of his favorite sayings was "There are three sure things in life: death, taxes and the New York Yankees".
Ron is survived by his wife Lois, his daughter Summer and son-in-law Matt, his son Ryan and daughter-in-law Amie, and his brother John and sister-in-law Sandy.
He is preceded in death by his mother Mary and father Noel.
