Ronald Carr

August 12, 1946 — July 6, 2015

Ronald (Ron) James Carr, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 6, 2015 at the age of 68. He passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born August 12, 1946, Ron is a native of New Kensington, Pennsylvania who later in life became a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In November, 1964, Ron joined the U.S. Navy. In the Navy, he reached the rank of Boatswain Mate Third Class (E-4) during his four (4) years of service. Ron was a Vietnam Veteran who served three (3) tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ticonderoga. He was honorably discharged in November, 1968 after being awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver star, Navy Unit Commendation with one bronze star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device (1960-).

After his service in the U.S. Navy, Ron managed a number of careers during his lifetime. He was a graduate of the Technical Training Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma receiving a certification in air conditioning and heating. A natural born salesman, Ron later decided to pursue his interest in sales at Sears in Tulsa, Oklahoma and then in Baton Rouge. Before his retirement, Ron started his own successful commercial lawn and landscape business - Carr Lawn Care.

He was a regular volunteer in the Baton Rouge Veterans Clinic and served as a Golf Marshal Volunteer at Santa Maria Golf Course. Prior to his diagnosis, Ron was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was also a member of Healing Place Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Carr in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Saundra Carr of the home, and their two (2) sons, Lance and his wife Nicole Carr and Todd Carr of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine Carr of New Kensington; his brothers Larry and his wife Peggy Carr of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Doyle and his wife Deborah Carr of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Ray and his wife Julie Carr of New Kensington and his sister Iris and her husband Doug Puffer of Lakeland, Florida; he is also survived by his grandchildren Rion Carr, Brennen Carr, Brianna Carr, Alyssa Carr and Jackson Carr all of Baton Rouge.

The family wishes to thank friends and family for their loving support and the staff of Hospice in His Care for their excellent care.

Following cremation, Ron will be interned in the Port Hudson, Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. A Memorial service at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will precede the Memorial Service starting at 9:00 AM.
