A resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 55 and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, April 3, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting will continue at the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Chaplain Gordon Atwell. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife, Vesa Blanton; mother, Natividad Blanton; daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and John Marino; son, Ronald G. Dutchie Blanton Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Allen Poole; brother and sister-in-law, Ernie and Lucita Blanton; and three grandsons, Mason and Madox Blanton and John Dale Marino II. Preceded in death by his father, Edwin Marcus Blanton. Ronald began his career with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office on March 1, 1984, then assigned to the downtown jail on Sept. 21, 1987. He was transferred on Nov. 1, 1991, to the Financial Crimes Division and promoted to the rank of corporal on Aug. 5, 1992. He was transferred to the Narcotics Division on June 7, 1993, then transferred to the Kleinpeter Substation on March 11, 1994. He transferred to the Traffic Division on Jan. 16, 1995, assigned to the motorcycle section. On March 16, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He served a total of 25 years of dedicated service to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. Pallbearers will be Bob Miller, Robert Clement, Robert Stone, Walter Pingle, David Pizzolato and Kevin Bodin. Honorary pallbearers are the Traffic Division of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.
