A retired chief electrician with the U.S. Merchant Marines and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, Louisiana. He was 82 and a native of Sun Flower County, Miss. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Jan. 25, from 9 a.m. until chapel service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Sam Maranto. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by three sons and daughtersinlaw, Robert Lee Pete Jr. and Denise L. Martin, Alvin Tyrone and Valerie Martin, and Leroy Donahue and Theresa Martin 16 grandchildren, numerous greatgrandchildren and a nephew, Bruce Mack and wife Deborah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mae Mack Martin parents, Leroy and Sophie Martin a son, Horace Martin and two daughters, Bernadine Troutman and Sheila Martin. He was a member and usher of St. Gerard Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and a 50 year member of the National Maritime Union.
