Robert (“Bob”) Anthony Karam Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on August 22, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on September 16, 1962, to Bernard and Rosalie Karam, Bob was a proud graduate of Oakdale High School, Class of 1980. He then furthered his education at Louisiana State University, earning a degree in Business in 1984. He began his professional career with CLECO, and he later devoted his talents to construction where he oversaw projects for multiple universities, including his alma mater, LSU.
Bob was a dedicated and devoted father, who took immense pride in his three children: Robert Anthony Karam Jr. (Helen), Matthew Laborde Karam (Madeline), and his cherished daughter Camille Grace Karam. He found great joy in being a grandfather to Robert Anthony Karam III (“Bear”), the light of his life.
Having resided in Alexandria, Louisiana, for many years and later in Baton Rouge, Bob formed enduring bonds with everyone in his midst. He had a profound love for LSU, and he made lasting memories with his family at The Party Box tailgate each weekend. He was a devout Catholic, finding solace and strength in praying the rosary, and serving as a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. His warm heart, unwavering faith, and passion for life will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A loving brother, Bob is survived by his siblings: Terri Karam Busada (Barry), Bernard Habib Karam (Amy), Mary Ann Karam Mahtook, Rita Karam Laborde (Bruce), and sister-in-law Lucy McGraw Karam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Rosalie Karam, his older brother, Joseph Gerard Karam, and his brother-in-law, Michael Anthony Mahtook Sr. He was deeply loved by numerous nieces and nephews who cherished “Uncle Bob” dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00am with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00am. Burial will be held in Oakdale, LA on Wednesday, August 28th the following day. Pallbearers will be Michael Joseph Busada, Mitchell George Busada, Michael Anthony Mahtook Jr., William Robertson Karam, Benjamin Habib Karam, Gregory Bernard Laborde, Daniel Bowers Karam, and Patrick Karam Laborde. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Viator and Mark Gawey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky in Bob’s memory, as this church served as his “happy place” during his time there.
