On December 8th, at the age of 82, Bob passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer.
As the patriarch of the family, he was affectionately known as "DaddyBob" by his eleven grandchildren. After a long career with Tyler Pipe, he retired in Baton Rouge. Although a long time resident, he was never far removed from his East Texas upbringing. He was a man's man and always handled himself with grace, courage and dignity, with a way of presenting himself that both commanded respect and offered friendship. He had a confident air that disarmed rather than intimidated, and he was well known for his humorous sayings that conveyed life's lessons with eloquent simplicity. He made you laugh as he made you learn.
Bob was a football stand-out at Southern Methodist University, a successful businessman and an avid fisherman, beekeeper and cyclist. For more than two decades he could be seen cycling the streets of his neighborhood. He leaves behind a delicious legacy of "Bob's Best Honey," family fish fries, "DaddyBob eggs" and homemade pickles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Wanda Rambo Blakeley. He leaves behind four children: Robert Bruce Blakeley Jr, Stacy Blakeley Froberg and husband Larry, Lori Blakeley Terral and husband Gregg and Holli Blakeley Cordell and husband Robert. His grandchildren are Carter, Blakeley, Hayden, and Elise Terral, John, Josh, Greyson and Landyn Froberg and Vaughan, Caroline and Claire Cordell; his grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katherine Townsend Terral, his father, James Mason Blakeley, his mother, Naomi Sweeney Blakeley and his brother, James Mason Blakeley, Jr.
The family of Bob Blakeley wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his personal care assistant, Marilyn Bienvenu, Dr. Benton Dupont, Dr. JJ Tabor, Dr. Chris McCanless and Dr. Bill Russell. We also want to thank Janet Sobers, Cheri Hebert, Pastor Jeff Guinn, Hospice of Baton Rouge and all of the dear friends who have supported us throughout his illness.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Tuesday, December 13th from 12:00-2:00, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00.
