Robert Bayer, M.D. passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at his home in McComb, Mississippi. He was 90 years old. Born May 5, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Solomon Bayer and Helen Sansweet Bayer, he was one of two children.
Robert proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he attended Temple University and went on to receive his medical degree from the University of California – Irvine.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl Durham Bayer; his three children Nina Bayer, Eli Bayer and Kennedy Fiacco; his three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
“Dr. Bob” as he was known to his colleagues, patients, family and friends practiced in California and Mississippi – the latter during his attempt at retirement! Having a thriving medical practice was never enough for him. His drive also led him to breeding, raising and showing Peruvian Paso horses and eventually owning and operating Peppertree Ranch Guns. When he wasn’t working, he could be found working on antique cars, riding his Harley Davidson or travelling. He and Cheryl accomplished the feat of visiting all 50 states, many of them in their motorhome, followed by a trailer containing his bike and 1965 Corvette.
Robert was the epitome of a man of all seasons. We will miss his grouchiness, his intelligence and will forever cherish the countless memories we were able to make by having him part of our lives.
At his request, a private service attended by his family was held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
For those so desiring, memorials in honor of Dr. Robert Bayer may be given to the charity of your choice.
