Robert Alford

October 9, 1935 — November 27, 2012

Robert Carwin Alford died at his home peacefully on Nov. 27 of complications from a bone marrow transplant as a result of AML Leukemia. He was a native of Bogalusa, born Oct. 9, 1935. He was living in Baton Rouge and is survived by his loving wife, Marian Simmons Alford. They were married 56 years. He is also survived by his son, Robert Carwin Alford, Jr. daughter, Dianne Coats and soninlaw Mark Coats daughter, Lori Thompson and soninlaw, Tommy Thompson 4 grandchildren, Ben and wife Jennifer Coats, Julie and Collin Coats and Robby Chase Alford. He has 3 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Lila and Harper Coats. He is also survived by his nephew, Chip Burr and wife Mary, a special cousin and friend, Robert Crawford and his childhood friend, Jimmy Hemphill and wife Ruth. Preceded in death by parents, Carwin Alford and Clotilde Crawford Alford, and sister, Beverly Ann Alford Burr. Robert graduated from LSU in 1957 in Mechanical Engineering. He was an avid LSU football and baseball fan. After graduating, he served 2 years with the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, VA. In 1965 he founded AWC, Inc., a manufacturers sales rep.distribution company. He loved his work and was so very proud of his AWC family. His friends and family brought much joy into his life. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. The family would like to thanks Hospice of Baton Rouge and all his caregivers. They would also like to thank Dr. McCanless and all the nurses on his staff. A special thanks to Dr. Stefan Ciurea of MD Anderson in Houston. There will be a memorial service celebrating his life at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Friday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. Immediately following the service there will be visitation for all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of LA, 3636 South I10 Service Rd., Suite 304, Metairie, LA 70001 or Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
