Rita B. Fontenot

Rita Briscoe Fontenot passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on January 31, 1931 in Church Point, Louisiana to William Briscoe and Louise Sonnier Briscoe.

She graduated from Church Point High School before settling down and starting her family. Rita was a woman of strong faith; she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs. She enjoyed country music, dancing, and being the life of the party. Rita’s favorite saying was “No Fool, No Fun”. Her family and friends will dearly miss the joy she brought into their lives.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward J. Fontenot; and her siblings, Elta Dupre, Irene Jeanise, Rena Labbie, Ida Soileau, Verde Briscoe and Shelrey Briscoe. She is survived by her sons, Randall Fontenot (Marcella), Dwayne Fontenot (Kathy Lachney) and Keith Fontenot (Melissa); her sister, Bonnie Goldman; her grandchildren, Stuart Fontenot, Burke Fontenot (Rebecca), Craig Fontenot, Jennifer Grossman (Danny), Patricia Fontenot (Ryan Shanahan), Kevin Fontenot (Stephanie), Brody Harris (Karmyn), Kane Fontenot (Jennifer), Matthew Lennox, Mark Lennox and Elizabeth Lennox; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family invites friends and extended family to a Visitation on Monday, November 27, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 865 Hatchell Lane in Denham Springs. Burial will immediately follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice, the Carpenter House, the staff at Harvest Manor and the staff at Our Lady of the Lake ICU.
