A devoted husband and loving father, Riley A. Phelps, 95, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was a native of Newton, Texas, and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He was a retired salesman with 21 years of service with Sears Roebuck and Co. and an accomplished wedding photographer. Well known for his great sense of humor and his love of telling jokes, he will be missed by many. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Pauline Robertson Phelps; son, Roland Phelps; daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Vincent Buzz Donellan; two grandsons, Steven Donellan and wife Christina, and U.S. Navy Intelligence specialist Petty Officer Second Class Brandon Donellan and wife Stephanie; granddaughter, Delaina Phelps; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Stephen and Layla Grace Donellan; and sister, Nadine Burton of Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, Alvah and Alma Phelps; and sister, Lorene Phelps Gilchrist. He was a member of Maranatha Church of God. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from noon until service in the chapel at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ted Long. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Maranatha Church of God.
