Rickye D. Messer, 74, of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022.
Rickye graduated from Central High School in 1965 and went on to serve in the United States Army. He retired from Exxon as an Inspector after a successful 35-year career.
Rickye is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Kalinin Jackson; beloved children, Emily LeBlanc (Bart), Margaret Chamberlain (Scott), Erin Melancon (Kory), and Kevin Messer (Yami); dearest siblings Debra Simmons, Denise Goff (Dennis), Rodney Messer (Engrid), and Beth Messer Porche and brother-in-law Charles Hall. Rickye was also affectionately known as “Pappy/Pop Pop” to 7 granddaughters and a grandson. He will be missed by numerous other family members and friends whom he cherished.
Rickye was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Blanche Messer, in-laws Wayne Simmons, Wallace Jackson, and Karen Hall.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home (11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge) on April 25, 2022, from 10 am until noon followed by services and burial. Pallbearers will be Kyle King, Ross Messer, Stewart Messer, Michael Simmons, William Bankston, and Charles Hall.
The Messer family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the staff at Old Jefferson Rehabilitation Center and the Carpenter House.
