Rick Moore, a 66-year-old retired chemical engineer, engineering company president, and scuba instructor, died on August 28, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on November 13, 1956, in DeQueen, Arkansas, to the late Lynn and Gladys (Trammell) Moore. He is preceded in death by his beloved stepfather John D. Murphy. He leaves behind his dearly loved partner in life, Marilyn Russo.
Moore grew up in Foreman, Arkansas and graduated from Foreman High School as Co-Valedictorian in 1975. He attended Arkansas College, Texarkana College, Southern Methodist University, and The University of Arkansas. He graduated from The University of Arkansas with a degree in Chemical Engineering with honors in 1980. Considering an academic career and an industrial career, he attended graduate school for one semester and taught Chemical Engineering Lab I. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society and Omega Chi Epsilon, the national chemical engineering honor society.
After college, he worked as a chemical process engineer and a process control engineer for S&B Engineers and Constructors in Houston. He moved to Baton Rouge to become Vice President, Process Department Manager for S&B affiliate Process Services, Inc. (PSI), and was named President a year later at the age of 35. PSI purchased selected assets of Ford, Bacon & Davis (FB&D) and Moore consolidated PSI Monroe, LA, Lake Charles, LA, New Orleans, LA, Kingsport, TN, Greenville, SC, Raleigh, NC, and New Delhi, India. Starting with a staff of 35, his engineering forces peaked at 718.
Moore was an avid scuba diver and scuba instructor. He made over 3500 scuba dives worldwide. He was a certified scuba instructor by the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), a worldwide scuba instruction organization. He taught scuba at all levels and was active in modifying international standards for teaching scuba. He served as NAUI Southwest Branch Manager for several years, responsible for instructor courses for seven states. He served as Chairman of the NAUI Services Group Board of Directors for many years.
In 2014, he was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Chemical Engineers. In 2022, he was inducted into the NAUI Hall of Honor.
Visitation to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, September 1, 2023, beginning at 9:00 AM until services at 11:00AM.
