For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 Richard Earl Spell, Sr, 53, of Prairieville, LA, died October 3, 2012 at 2:50 a.m. after a 4 year battle with Carcinoid cancer, at his home with his family and friends by his side. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 5 pm to 9 pm and will resume on Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 9 am until services at 11 am. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Richard was born March 21, 1959 in Baton Rouge, LA. He was a 1978 graduate from Istrouma High School, where he played football for the Istrouma Indians 42. Richard was a truck driver for AAA Cooper Transportation for over 20 years before he retired with his illness. His interests were driving his big rig, LSU football, camping, playing qwirkle and dominos with our friends Paul and Denette Hutchinson, watching his children play sports and enjoying his grandchildren. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Susan Spell four daughters and their spouses, Shannon and David Spence, Kristy Spell, Toni and Jamie Bourgeois, Danielle and John Ritchie II two sons, Jacob and Tyler Spell grandchildren, Megan and Emalee Spence, Mason Wheeler, Ashlyn and Hayden Daigle, Peyton Bordelon, Riley, Jessie and Bailey Bourgeois, and John Thomas III his mother, Pauline Brown Spell sisters Pam and Mickey Templet, Elizabeth Spell Morman brothers, Johnny Spell nieces, Maggie and Josie Spell nephews, Matt and Emmitt Templet uncle, John Mumphrey numerous cousins, and three sets of special friends, Mike and Johnna Sweet, Paul and Denette Hutchinson and Danny, and Denise Newman. He is preceded in death by his son Richard Earl Spell, Jr. his dad, Earl Cletis Bubba Spell nephew, Guy Joseph Fell his Aunt Rae Brown Mumphrey and Aunt Helen Krumholt, and his mother in law Mary Katherine Powell. Pallbearers will be Johnny Spell, David Spence, Jamie Bourgeois, John Ritchie II, Paul Hutchinson, and Mike Sweet. Honorary Pallbearers are Jacob Earl and Tyler Lee Spell, John Mumphrey Uncle, and Danny Newman. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Patrick Stagg and Staff, St. Joseph Hospice and very special thanks you to Denette Hutchinson for being here for my family. Also, a special thank you to all of our extended families and friends for all your prayers and support. We know God has a plan for all of our lives and we were so blessed to have had the many years that we have had together. We love you Richard and we miss you more than words can express.
