Richard Pastorek

October 9, 1924 — February 13, 2021

A kind-hearted gentleman, Richard Lloyd Pastorek passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 with his loving family by his side at the age of 96.

His greatest legacy was his family.  He was born to Joseph and Aimee' Pastorek in New Orleans on October 9, 1924.  Richard graduated from Fortier High School in 1941 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University in 1947.  Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander during the Battle of Leyte to liberate the Philippines in the Pacific campaign of World War II.

He met his wife Marilyn after Sunday Mass. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 59 years. Richard was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1947. He worked for Ethyl/Albemarle Corporation using his engineering skills in Louisiana, California, South Carolina, Ontario, New York and North Carolina, retiring in 1990 after 43 years of service.  Richard enjoyed volunteering at the Saint Vincent de Paul Dining Room.  He was a faithful and devoted member of  Our Lady of Mercy and St. Thomas More Catholic Churches, serving as Eucharistic Minister and counting offertory contributions.  His favorite sports were baseball, catching pitches from his brother Jack with the neighborhood baseball team, and golf, making his last hole-in-one at the age of 90 at historic City Park Golf Course.

Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who met him.

He is survived by his four children: Steve Pastorek (Sally), Lynn Consentino, Rick Pastorek and Lisa Gallagher (Tom); 15 grandchildren: Dr. Rachel Tyler (Adam), Sarah Cossack (Matt), Tina Berg (Ron), Tessy Kingery (Shelley), Anthony Consentino (Jenn), Vincent Consentino (Ashley), Sabrina Polizzatto (Stephen) and Samuel Consentino (JLynn), Chandler, Mason and Noah Pastorek, and Bobby, Tommy, Jack and Reese Gallagher; 16 great-grandchildren: George Tyler, Andrew, Joseph, Peter and Leo Cossack, Abby Minchella, Elliott and Scarlett Kingery, Domenico and Joseph Consentino, Evelyn, Ezra and Luca Consentino, Alexandra Hoffman, August and Dove Polizzatto;  sister-in-law Rose Marie Pastorek and nephews/niece Joe (Pat), Rietzi and John (Jackie) Pastorek.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn Ann Daffan Pastorek, parents Joseph George and Aimee' Marguerite Allain Pastorek, brother John Joseph Pastorek, and grandson Taylor Paul Pastorek.

Thanks to the Pinnacle Hospice Team for their care and support of Richard during his final journey.
