Richard died peacefully in his sleep at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, with his loving wife of 12 years by his side at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice from complications of Alzheimers. He was born July 26, 1935, to Robert Clyde and Anna Pearl OMar in South Fulton, Tenn. A resident of Baton Rouge and a former resident of Gulfport, Miss., Richard retired from the Biloxi VA Hospital, where he worked as a rehabilitation specialist for 32 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Betty Rae Langlois OMar two stepdaughters, Garylyn J. Gill and her husband, Robert, and Paulette J. Pitslata and her husband, Mike two sons, Richard G. OMar Jr., and Terrence P. OMar and his wife, Cyndi two sisters, Virginia Caswell and her husband, Tilford, and Nancy Rhodes and her husband, Jerold brother, Robert OMar and his wife, Bobbie seven grandchildren, Corey OMar, Sara Haven OMar, Justin Gill, Cheyenne Yeary, Shanea Pitslata, Brittnay Sparks and Mandy Hendricks and four greatgrandchildren, Dylan OMar, Gabriel Land, Mia Yeary and Slade Sparks. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clyde and Anna Pearl OMar and grandson, Drew OMar. Visiting at Temple Baptist Church, 3650 ONeal Lane, on Saturday, March 26, from noon until memorial service at 1 p.m., conducted by Brother Glenn Taylor. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Richards wonderful caregivers at Ollie Steele Burden Manor, Amedisys Hospice, doctors and staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice and Chaplain Chris Roussell, along with friends and neighbors for their prayers and support.
