Richard Mack McCandless, who was born in Memphis, TN, and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the age of 67. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Upon completion of military service, he worked in the industrial field for over forty years. His last employment was with Westgate on location at Dow Chemical Co. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club and a volunteer at the U.S.S. Kidd. He took pleasure in spending time with his family, talking on the radio, fixing things that were broken, fishing in his boat, and playing fetch with his dog. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judy McCandless daughter, Laura McCandless Disedare sons and daughtersinlaw, Brian and Melanie McCandless, and Gregory and Julia Chan McCandless grandchildren, Victoria Disedare, Matthew Disedare, and Emily McCandless mother, Mabel McCandless sister, Shirley McCandless and brother, Robert McCandless and wife Becky. He is also survived by sisterinlaw and husband, Opal and Bill Herndon brotherinlaw, Frank Watson and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard W. McCandless fatherinlaw and motherinlaw, Albert and Ruth Watson and niece, Dane McCandless. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 4 pm until 8 pm and will resume on Monday, January 23, from 9 am until service at 11 am. Burial will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. His family would like to express thanks to Doctors Billings, Byrd and Lo and their staff, his homehealth nurse, Karleen Burgoon, as well as the nursing staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and St. Josephs Carpenter House for their care and compassion that they provided during his treatments.
