Richard “Rich” Walter Borek, Sr, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age 70 surrounded by his family after a 2 year courageous fight with cancer. Rich was born on July 28, 1948 in New Britain, CT to Walter and Helen Borek. He was a graduate of New Britain High School and attended UConn. Rich was a dedicated member of the AutoZone Human Resources Team and had a passion for his work. He loved collecting unique guns and coins, but his greatest joy was his family. Rich, known as “Grandpa” to his grandchildren, took great joy in several holiday traditions with the family. He loved organizing backyard Easter egg hunts for the grandkids, displaying unmatched Christmas yard decorations and extravagant fireworks displays on July 4th and New Year’s. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious grin, dedication to his family and was truly a unique, one of a kind man. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. Rich was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Helen Borek and first wife of 26 years, Angela Borek. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Melanie Borek, daughter Jennifer Ortego and son-in-law Shane, Step-daughter, Jessica Gill and husband, Byron, Step-son, Matthew Arnold and wife Nicole, and grandchildren, Savannah, Olivia, and Ella Ortego, Sidney, Lucas and Madeline Gill, and Dorothy Arnold. Sisters, Mary-Ann Bayram and husband Steven, and Brenda Kawecki. Visitation will take place at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 15615 Jefferson Hwy. on Thursday, October 25th from 9:30 followed by Mass at 10:30. Internment immediately following at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
