On Monday, October 20, 2014, retired United Methodist pastor Rev. Dr. Alan Dee Einsel died after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was 75, born February 5, 1939 as the youngest of four sons to Roy and Miriam Rush Einsel on the family wheat and cattle farm outside of Greensburg, Kansas.
He graduated in 1962 with a BBA from Washburn University in Topeka, KS and then enlisted in the Navy for 4 years as a dry land sailor at Clarksville Base in Ft. Campbell, KY. After hearing Gods call for the third time in his life, Alan entered Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO and received his Master of Divinity Degree in 1970. He met his wife, Barbara Cain, in seminary, and they married August 5, 1969 in Houma, LA at FUMC. They were blessed with two children, David Alan Sandy Marie.
Alan served Methodist churches in Garnett, Enterprise, Herington, and Burdick for over 8 years in the Kansas Conferences. In 1976, Alan transferred to the LA Conference of the United Methodist Church to serve LA Memorial UMC in Opelousas for 5 years. From 1981 to 1987, Alan pastored Jefferson UMC in Baton Rouge, and while there, he received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Drew University in Madison, NJ, in 1985. He served in other churches throughout LA, including Lake Vista in New Orleans 19871992, FUMC in Houma 19921998, Grace UMC in Ruston 19982000, FUMC in Zachary 20002003, and Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial UMC in Bogalusa 20032010, his final and longest appointment of 7 years. Dr. Einsel retired in 2010 after a dedicated, caring ministry of 42 years to enjoy family, grandchildren, and traveling with his wife.


Rev. Dr. Alan Dee Einsel is survived by his wife, Rev. Barbara Cain Einsel his son and wife, David and Chantelle Einsel, and their children, Jenna Rose and Cooper Roy his brother and wife, Ralph and Mary Einsel his brother, Gene Einsel and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy Einsel Bryant his parents, Roy and Miriam Einsel his brother, Victor Einsel and his fatherinlaw, Rev. Jerome Cain.


Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 22. Visitation at Jefferson United Methodist Church, 10328 Jefferson Highway from 11 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 23. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Honorary pallbearers will be United Methodist clergy members of the Louisiana Conference.


The family offers its sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff involved in Alans treatment, specifically Dr. Kenneth Blue, III and Dr. Gerald Miletello. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Jefferson UMC, Pennington Cancer Center at BR General Bluebonnet, or United Methodist church funds of choice.
