Raymond L. Gus Denny, native of Tyro, Kan., and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elsa Lee Denny a son and daughterinlaw, James and Candy Brignac Denny two grandchildren, Robyn M. Denny and Reed C. Denny a brother, James E. Denny and wife Joyce, of Plainville, Kan. two nieces, Denise and husband Kerry Monk, of Mulvane Kan., and Deborah Diamond, of Nowata, Okla. and a nephew, Jack Allen, of Nowata, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lena Walker Denny and sister, Polly Webster. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Gus graduated in 1947 from Caney High School, Caney, Kan., and then attended Pittsburg State Teachers College, Pittsburg, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He retired at the age of 60 as drilling superintendent from Standard OilBritish Petroleum with 41 years of service. Gus was an accomplished woodworker and cabinet maker. He loved sports, especially LSU football family, friends and children. The family would like to thank Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center doctors and nurses of the MSCC unit for their love and care.
