Rachel was a loving mother and wife and a devout Christian. She passed away peacefully at home in her sleep.
She graduated from LSU with a B.S. in Elementary Education and taught English and literature for several years at Mckinley Middle Magnet. She loved her students and called them her kids. She retired from teaching due to health issues but never lost the desire to teach.
Rachel loved walking her maltipoo, Cody who was her beloved and faithful companion. Rachel never missed a televised LSU gymnastics meet or LSU baseball game, and loved music, sitting on the beach, and fishing. She also loved gardening and growing flowers and would rather be outside than anywhere else. She was also a big fan of British television mysteries.
Most of her youth was spent in Jonesville, LA where she started dating Ron in high school. They married a few years later in 1984 and moved to Baton Rouge where they started their family.
She is survived by her husband, Ron and two children, Ashley Danielle and Eric, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Shirley and A Dell Cox; paternal grandparents, Denzil and Laverne Cox; maternal grandparents, James and Georgia “Tee Wee” Wascom; and was also preceded in death by a baby brother who died during birth.
