Pierson John Smith, a loving son and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge on Sunday, April 27, 2008, after a 2 year battle with melanoma. Pierson was 57 and recently retired after 26 years of service with the Office of Legislative Auditor and the state of Louisiana. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his mother, Willie May Moreau, Baton Rouge; three sisters, Mary Morris, Sherry Gautreau and Stephanie Mayeaux; brother, Charles Smith; and nieces and nephews, Darrell Armstrong, Chuck Smith, Mark Smith, Cory Gautreau, Allie Gautreau, Kyle Adibyazdi, Brittany Autin and Jacob Mayeaux. Preceded in death by his loving stepfather, Earlin Joseph Moreau; and father, John Pierson Smith. Funeral service will be given by his brother-in-law, the Rev. Shannon Morris, of Western Grove, Ark. Pallbearers will be Chad Gautreau, Cory Gautreau, Kyle Adibyazdi, Darrell Armstrong, Chuck Smith and Larry Viveiros. Special thanks to Dr. David Hansen and the staff of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Dr. Nicholas PapPadopolous and the staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center, nurses Pauline and Vickki of Baton Rouge Hospice for their care and support given to our family and our beloved Pierson.
