Phillip Douglas Compton, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Ochsner Hospital on O'Neal Lane. Mr. Compton was born in Lockwood, Ky., on. Dec. 28, 1933. A former resident of Ashland, Ky., he resided for the last 39 years in Baton Rouge, where he was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959. Mr. Compton retired from Allied ChemicalArcadian Corp. in Geismar several years ago. A lover of nature, he also loved model railroading, camping, gardening, LSU sports, UK and LSU basketball and traveling the world with his wife. Mr. Compton is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Wallenfelsz Compton; daughter and son-in-law, Traci Ann and Frederick Ricky Passbach Maier and their adorable 8-week-old daughter, Camille Rose, all of Farmerville; son, Phillip Douglas Compton, M.D., wife Stephanie and their precious children, Sidonia Elizabeth, 12, and Sheldon Joseph, 10, all of Ocean Springs, Miss.; sister, Eileen Compton Fails, of Orange Park, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lon and Eleanor Ferguson Compton; two brothers, John Hayden Compton and Roscoe Conklin Compton; and a sister, Nanalee Compton Bayes. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Feb. 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ron Tyndall of Parkview Baptist Church. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family would like to extend a special thanks to friends and the church family for their prayers, love and support they shared after his diagnosis with Hodgkins disease several months ago. Mr. Compton touched the lives of so many people with his kind and gentle way. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
