Phillip Gifford Alley, Sr. Obituary

Phill passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born in Huron, South Dakota to Walter Vern Alley, Sr. and Susan Estella McPhillips Alley and grew up on farms in Huron, South Dakota and Riceville, Iowa, He enlisted in the US Navy, and after his discharge, graduated from Iowa State University. He was hired by France Packing Co. as a traveling sales representative and later moved to Shreveport, LA to take on a new territory. In Shreveport, he met and married Emily Margaret O’Dwyer. Emily and Phill moved to Baton Rouge in 1963 where they resided until both of their deaths. In 1973, Phill and Emily started Parts Maintenance, Inc. Phill was proud to be the father of his six children, was a proud business owner, and was very active in St. Thomas More Catholic Church as Parish Council President and other positions. Phill loved dancing (especially to the tune “Alley Cat”), cooking, and giving parties.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents; two of his brothers, Walter Vern Alley, Sr. & William Gene Alley; and two granddaughters, Anne Clare Reintjes & Anna Grace Alley. He is survived by his daughter Jeannette Alley Reintjes & her husband, Robert James Reintjes, Jr. of Mission Hills, Kansas; his son, Phillip Gifford Alley, Jr. & his wife, Margaret Bracamontes Alley; his daughter, Kathleen Alley Lovretich & her husband, Dr. John Otto Lovretich of Baton Rouge; his son, John Christopher Alley, Sr. & his wife, Michelle Buisson Alley of Metairie; his son, Paul Gerard Alley of Fort Worth, Texas; and his son, Michael Todd Alley, Sr. & his wife, Monica Rodrigue Alley of Clinton; 22 grandchildren: Robert James Reintjes, III & his wife, Dr. Staci Schnieders Reintjes; Kathryn Emily Reintjes Ashley & her husband, Michael Ryan Ashley; John Phillip Reintjes and his wife, Audrey Carrio Reintjes; Paul Joseph Reintjes and his wife, Amelia Wenzel Reintjes; Michael Lewis Reintjes and his fiancée, Hadley Winslow Burnham; Katelyn Marie Alley; John Maxwell Lovretich; Samuel Phillip Lovretich; Colleen Clare Lovretich; John Christopher Alley, Jr. & his wife, Anne Bergeron Alley; Rebecca Elaine Alley Bassett & her husband, Brandon Bassett; Brenna Michelle Alley; Michael George Alley; Christa Emily Alley; Bridget Evelyn Alley; Samantha Anne Alley; Rachel Hart Alley; Michael Todd Alley, Jr.; Patrick Joseph Alley; Emily Elaine Alley, Thomas Gifford Alley, and Andrew Declan Alley; and seven great grandchildren, Sage Elizabeth Reintjes, Teagan Olivia Reintjes, Reese Alexandra Reintjes, Carolyn Grace Ashley, Emily Kathleen Ashley, David Edward Ashley, and Lainey Katherine Bassett; a sister, Adrienne Joan Alley Schweers; and a brother, Richard Jerome Alley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Williamsburg Retirement Center for giving Phill many happy moments in his last years.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, Greenwell Springs, LA from 8:30 am to 10:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow.

The family requests that masks be worn at all times.
