“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Philip Mark Roth passed away and left this earthly home Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was born October 14, 1955 in Baton Rouge and raised in Amite, LA. He was a 1973 graduate of Oak Forest Academy. Mark was a talented high school athlete and his quick wit and handsome looks made him a class favorite. He attended Northeast Louisiana University and LSU, where he received his BA in Advertising. He received his first guitar at age 10 and was basically self-taught, which began a lifelong passion for music. He played in numerous “garage” bands in his youth and developed this passion into a career. His artistic talents also led him to being a highly respected hand-engraver in the jewelry business, but his passion was always music…only to be surpassed by his love for his grandchildren in his later years.
A cherished mentor and friend described Mark best:
“Mark Roth was a beautiful soul who loved his family, a Beatles fan, one hell of a guitar player/singer. Every musician hears a calling – that ignition switch which invites him to the “song”, the countless hours of practice, and the endless nights of live stages. If the stars align, we meet kindred spirits, and with a little luck, we are able to share our gift with the world. In our joyous noise, we leave behind a thousand smiling faces along the journey! At the very least, we create special magical moments in time. Your music touched so many, Mark, and each time I play, I hear your mighty sound and hear those amazing harmonies. We have traveled many miles and shared some beautiful memories! It’s been a blessing! GodSpeed my Brother. I love you…Keep that ole acoustic tuned and save me a mic. See you on the other side!”
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Philip Alfred Roth, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Glenda Roth Murphy; daughter Rachel Purgatorio (Kyle) and son Andy Roth (Meagan); their mother, Sharon Roth; 3 grandchildren: Kristen Kinsley Roth, Jude Philip Purgatorio and Nora Marie Purgatorio; Sister Dana Piland (Tom); Brother Robert Roth; Sister Aime Duhe (Chip); Brother Dr. Brad Roth (Dr. Jennifer); and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be at St. George Catholic Church on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 9-10a, with a memorial mass beginning at 10a. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Walk-Ons on Burbank Dr.
