Philip J. Marino (PJ) passed away on November 21, 2018, at the age of 88. He is reunited with his parents, Sam F. Marino and Josie Vince Marino. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he was a graduate of Catholic High School and member of the CHS Men’s Club. He ushered at St. Thomas Moore and St. Patrick Catholic Churches and belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Grandsons of Italy. He was a platoon sergeant in the Army National Guard and a former member of the Sheriff’s Flotilla. He worked alongside his father in the family business, Marino & Son Plumbing Company, until his retirement. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and gardening. He traveled extensively, making many religious pilgrimages.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie Viverata Marino; his “four girls,” Rosanna Marino (Dwain Sutherland), Marilyn Marino, Gina Marino Tollefson (Richard), and Phyllis Marino; his grandchildren: Rachel Scott, Sam Cappo, Claudia Cappo, Katherine Stewart, Anthony Whillhide, Kristina Wiggins, Syke Tollefson, and Dakota Tollefson; and great-grandchildren: Isabella Wiggins, Dylan Scott, Zoe Scott, Ava Cappo, Mana Willhide and Mala Willhide. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Marino Dauzat (Ryan), sister-in-law Antoinette Zerangue (Joseph), many cousins, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 24, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with mass to follow. Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dwain Sutherland, Sam Cappo, Richard Tollefson, Dakota Tollefson, Anthony Willhide, and Jay Lowrance. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Dauzat, Joseph Zerangue, and Chris Viverata. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of dad’s favorite charities: McMains Children’s Developmental Center or Missionaries of Charity in Baton Rouge. The “4 daughters” would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to his at-home caregivers, Ms. Elaine Guerin and Ms. Betty Siscoe, and, in his final months, the excellent staff at The Pearl at Jamestown.
