Phetsakhone “Phet” Sananikone, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at his home on April 2, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Vientiane, Laos, and later escaped the country’s communist regime in search of a better life.
In 1980, Phet, along with several of his siblings, moved to the United States. After spending few years in both Louisiana and Georgia, he ultimately made Louisiana his forever home. He dedicated over 36 years of service as a maintenance welder at EMR Southern Recycling, formerly known as Southern Scrap.
Phet was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing. He was also passionate about cooking, with a deep love for both Lao and Cajun cuisine. Above all, Phet cherished time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Tracy Dugan Sananikone; his children, Christopher Phetsakhone Sananikone, Amy Sananikone, and Georgette Sananikone; and his grandson, Christopher Jayden McBride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Khamphou Sananikone and Khammay Khounviengxay; and his brothers, Vone Sananikone, Bounleuth Sananikone, and Phousamay Sananikone.
