ThongPhanh Nouandy, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022. He was born in Laos and served in the military for over 15 years. After leaving the military, he became a monk for many years. He escaped a communist country and moved to Thailand where he also fought through some hardships of living in different refugee camps. He was a leader in the refugee camp who fought for freedom.
It was August of 1996 when Phanh Nouandy made the decision to move his family to the United States. He worked at Louisiana Scrap Metal Recycling for over 25 years. On the days when he would take off, he loved to fish and play a Lao Bamboo instrument - Khene. He also loved to forage for mushrooms. He was a well-respected man in his community, but most of all, a family man.
Phanh is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kham Nouandy; his children, (son) Saybounlith Nouandy, (daughter) Soysouvanh Pizzolato, (SIL) Tyler Pizzolato,(son) Sounakhon Nouandy, (daughter) Xinhma Nouandy; his grandsons, Mason Pizzolato, Maddox Pizzolato; and granddaughter, Arabella Nouandy Payne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Seng and Bousaun Nouandy.
Honored to serve as monks will be Saybounlith Nouandy, Sounakhon Nouandy, Ken Boutvonnoan and Bobby Insyxiengmay.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson HWY, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 on Wednesday, December 14 from 6pm-8pm. Funeral Service will follow the next day, Thursday, December 15 at 1pm.
