Peyton Leon Smith passed away peacefully at 82 on October 28, 2022, in the company of his loving family. As A child, he loved singing in church and in school performances. He graduated from LSU, then pursued a career as a mechanical engineer for 50 years. Peyton was a quiet, selfless man who was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved to cook and tell stories about his childhood and his family. He will be greatly missed.
Peyton is survived by daughters, Danna Smith and Stephanie Lindsly (Randall); grandchildren, Casie Lindsly (Trey Sellers) and Jordan Lindsly (Alicia); and brother, Thomas Smith (Linda).
He is preceded in death by Carol Riedlinger Smith, his loving wife of 59 years and his parents, Berton and Hildred Smith.
The family would like to thank the following healthcare professionals for their care, support, and guidance: Doctors Gerald Barber, P. Ellipeddi, and A. Lauve, the Baton Rouge General Oncology floor doctors and nurses, and the Audubon Hospice nurses.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, located at 11817 Jefferson HWY, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Service will begin at 10:30 am, and burial will follow immediately.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge at 550 Lobdell Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 in the name of Peyton L. Smith.
