He was a native of Sunshine and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was born Aug. 2, 1925, and passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, as a result of complications from cancer. He was a graduate of St. Gabriel High School and Tulane University. Visiting will be at St. George Catholic Church on Monday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum at 11817 Jefferson Highway. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Landry Richard; four children, Constance Crasto and husband Lloyd, and Rene Stolzenthaler and husband Stan III, all of Baton Rouge, Percy S. Rick Richard III and wife Tracey, of Mandeville, and John Randall Randy Richard and wife Debbie, of Houston; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Christopher S. Crasto and wife Jessica, and their daughter, Anna, of Folsom, Jennifer L. Crasto, Kevin M. Crasto and his wife, Rene, all of Baton Rouge, Stanford C. Stolzenthaler IV and his wife, Anna, and their daughters, Anna and Destinee, of Baton Rouge, Kyle R. Stolzenthaler and his wife, Caitlin, of Baton Rouge, Dr. Paul S. Richard, of Pittsburgh, Mark S. Richard, of Mandeville, Michelle D. Richard, of Houston, and Garrett and Abbee Creath, of Mandeville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy S. Richard Sr. and Lorena Pecue Richard; a sister, Constance Marie Richard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John S. Landry Sr. and Adele Noel Cute Landry; and a brother-in-law, John S. Landry Jr. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Hubbs and Brink Vaughn. He was a retired employee of Ethyl Corp. with more than 38 years of service and held responsible positions in finance and accounting functions including chief accountant of Ethyl International Division, controller of the Petroleum Chemicals Division in Houston, and associate corporate controller in Baton Rouge, until that operation was transferred to Richmond, Va. He was also construction auditor during the construction of Ethyl's Pittsburgh, Calif., plant and was deeply involved in the accounting phase of the start-up of Ethyl's plant in Salonika, Greece, as well as coordinator of reporting financial requirements between Ethyl and its European sales and administrative subsidiary, Ethyl S.A., in Brussels, Belgium. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the following medals for his military service: the American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Area, World War II Victory, Navy Occupation Service, National Defense, Korean War Service by the Korean government, United Nations Service, Naval Reserve and the Korean Service Medal.
