Percy Anthony Mayeaux, age 84, died on June 24, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and in the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Percy was born in Hessmer, Louisiana on August 15, 1933 and lived most of his life in the Greater New Orleans area. He graduated from S. J. Peters High School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1951 and studied insurance and finance at Tulane University Evening Division. Percy was an accomplished, self-made businessman in the insurance industry and retired after establishing two successful insurance agencies. He enjoyed sailing, dancing and wood working and was a frequent retreatant at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, Louisiana. Shortly after Percy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, he moved to assisted living communities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where his health and well-being were graciously attended to by his devoted son Paul Mayeaux and daughter Maureen Lavastida. Percy was preceded in death by his parents Telisma and Lula Mayeaux, his brother Richard Mayeaux and his brother in-law John Elbert Gauthier. He is survived by his sister Rita Gauthier, his brother Chester Mayeaux (Mary Lou), his wife of many years Marcy Mayeaux, his children Deborah Mayeaux Bonanno (Jay), Carl Mayeaux (Gretchen), Kenneth Mayeaux (Shannon), Janette Mayeaux Cupp (Keith), Paul Mayeaux (Lisa), Maureen Mayeaux Lavastida (Jorge), his 26 grandchildren, one great grandson and one soon to be born great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 30 beginning at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr. Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The family expresses its gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge, The Haven at Windermere, Sunrise at Siegen, Home Instead Senior Care and the many healthcare professionals who cared for Percy as he suffered from Alzheimer's disease and cancer. Also, the family is appreciative of the loving prayers and service of Fr. Mike Schatzle, Fr. Paul Gros and the parishioners of St George Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are encouraged to make donations to Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd. Baton Rouge, Louisiana, ALZBR.org, in memory of Percy Mayeaux.
