Peggy Dumas

Peggy Geraldine Gerri De Vault Dumas passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the age of 82 at Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. Gerri was born April 14, 1927, in the El Dorado, Ark., area. She lived the past 53 years in Baton Rouge. Before she married, she was a switchboard operator for the telephone company in El Dorado. Gerri leaves behind a loving and caring husband of 62 12 years, Thurman Lloyd Dumas; three daughters, Debbie Dumas Runge and husband Kevin, Sandy Dumas and husband Marcus Guidry, and Terri Dumas Adams and husband L.G. III; grandchildren, Wade Dumas Chatfield and wife Jen, Benjamin Runge, Samuel Runge, Grey Summers Moyed and husband Karl, Les Summers, Kali Adams Aucoin and husband Steven, Mattye Adams, and L.G. Sonny Adams IV; great-granddaughter, Beatrice Chatfield; and expected granddaughter in December, to be named Emma Moyed. Preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Curtis De Vault and Alma Veda Rainwater De Vault; brother, George Bo De Vault; half brother, Otis De Vault; and half sister, Louise De Vault Williams. Gerri was full of life, love, fun and laughter. In her earlier years, Gerri was active in her church and enjoyed many years of teaching 5-year-olds Sunday school class at Hooper Road Baptist Church. She was always involved in her daughters' school at Brownsfield Elementary with a great deal of fundraising, event planning and a wide variety of charity work. Gerri was blessed with many creative talents, which she shared and passed on to her daughters and grandchildren. She was an artist, she enjoyed crafts, sewing and photography, and she was a talented cook. Her influence will be immeasurable for generations to come. Gerri and her husband also enjoyed traveling and over the years developed many friendships at their favorite stops. Along the way, she developed an interest in collecting dolls. She loved finding them at flea markets, researching their origins, cleaning them up, dressing them and naming them. Matching her babies' personalities, she had recently shared some of her collection with family and friends. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Kevin Runge, Marcus Guidry, L.G. Adams III, Wade Chatfield, Les Summers, Ben Runge, L.G. Sonny Adams IV and Steven Aucoin. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Runge and Karl Moyed.
