Surrounded by family and loved ones, Paul Vincent Pancoast Jr. crossed over peacefully into the arms of our Lord late Thursday May 3, 2018. The epitome of class, honor, and integrity, he was a devoted husband of 69 years and loving father of 4.
A product of humble roots in New Orleans during the great depression, Paul earned the honor of becoming the youngest ever Eagle Scout in Louisiana. At age 16 he graduated from Warren Easton Boys High School, and at 17 enlisted and honorably served his country in the Pacific theater during WWII as a Navy airman. In 1948 he married Loretto Anne McGee in New Orleans, and in 1950 he graduated from LSU with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked many years for John H. Carter Company of Louisiana and later co-founded his own engineering and sales firm Devitt-Pancoast Controls Company. Paul was an avid golfer and charter member of Acadian Hills Country Club and Shenandoah Country Club.
Paul passed much like he lived his life, peacefully and with dignity. One of the last of the Greatest Generation, he typified what is thought of from that era...a true gentleman, provider, and rugged individualist.
Survived by his dear wife Loretto M. Pancoast, daughter Leslie P. Walton and husband Peyton Walton, daughter Peggy P. Bergeron, and son Thomas M. Pancoast and wife Bridget Pancoast, along with 9 grand children, and 9 great grand children. His son Paul E. Pancoast and sister Joyce P. Schommer preceded him in death. His family is forever thankful to his devoted caregiver Teresa Williams.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, Baton Rouge, LA on Friday, May 11th from 5 pm to 8 pm and will continue on Saturday, May 12th at 9 am until funeral service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to Paul's church, Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 3555 Jones Creek Road.
Paul you will be greatly missed. You are home with the Lord. May you rest in peace. Until we are with you again - Love forever, your family.
