Our beloved Paul A. May, age 70, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Baton Rouge, La., passed peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 8:19 pm at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice.
Paul worked for the city of New Orleans for 41 years in many positions, with his last position serving as the Director of Safety and Permits. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corp. He obtained his law degree at Loyola University in New Orleans. He attended the NOPD Academy and served as a reserve police Sergeant for many years. He loved his police volunteer work and he loved New Orleans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Trudy May; two daughters, Nicole May McElroy and husband Allan; Monique May Sauter and husband Richard; son, Andrew Paul May and wife Grethel; step-daughter, Dawn Dietrich Bonnecaze, and husband, Dr. Andre Bonnecaze; step-son, Dr. Damon Dietrich; 11 grandchildren, Aubrey and Elise McElroy, Meagan McElroy Haulbrook, and husband Blake; Barrett, Margueritte, and Caroline Sauter; Miranda and Camille May; and Stewart, Sarah, and Sydney Bonnecaze; a brother, COL Louis May and wife Sandra; five sisters, Chantedieu Hamm and husband David, Dorothy Paulson, Maria Cespedes and husband Carlos, and Marie-Jose'phe Traylor and husband Randy; Rose Carroll and husband Michael; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Louis and Margueritte May; his beloved first wife, Lisette Lucas May; and two beloved brothers, Mark and Jonathan May.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, La., on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 8:00pm. Visiting hours will resume on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 South Harrell's Ferry Road, Baton Rouge, La., from 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am.
A Memorial Service in his honor will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Pius Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans, La., with visitation from 10 am to 12 noon. The Memorial Service will follow visitation.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
A special thanks to all the physicians, nurses, and staff that cared for him at Our Lady Regional Medical Center in the MICA and Emergency Care Unit. Special thanks to the Palliative Care staff who helped the family in such a difficult time, especially Dr. Mary Raven, Dr. Mark Kantrow, and Glenn Landry, NP. Special thanks to Clarity Hospice staff and physicians for his wonderful care. Special thanks to Nursing Care Connections for the care provided by the staff. Special thanks to all his many other health providers especially Dr. Scott Wharton at the Baton Rouge Clinic and Dr. Joseph Deumite at La. Cardiology.
