Born Aug. 10, 1954, he entered into eternal life Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the age of 53. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Ethel. He is survived by two sisters and their spouses, Lynn B. and Jeff Pennington, Baton Rouge, and Patricia B. and Timothy O'Rourke, Atlanta; nieces and nephews, Gwendolyn Berniard and John Richard Berniard Jr., both of New Orleans, Michael Kern and spouse, Deborah, Prairieville, Jay Pennington, Baton Rouge, and Erin and Ryan O'Rourke, both of Atlanta; other loving grandnephews and cousins, as well as extended family members. Though his health was poor, his endurance and spirit were a precious gift to all who loved him. Preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Percy Berniard; and brother, John Richard Berniard. Visitation at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church on Saturday, July 19, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment in Garden of Memories, Metairie. The family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to Dr. Robert Kenney and all of the staff of Renal Associates, FMC Dialysis Services, and his loving caregivers and friends at Pinehaven Community Home.
