Patrick Eugene Tomeny, Sr., 72, a native of White Castle, LA, and living in Baton Rouge since 1976 entered into Eternal Life on August 13, 2015, at 3:05 AM, after a recurrence of brain cancer first diagnosed eight years ago. During this last week of life Patrick was surrounded by a large number of family members and many life-long friends that he was so blessed to have known.
He was a 1960 graduate of Ascension Catholic HS in Donaldsonville, LA and then went on to obtain a degree in architecture at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now ULL) in 1967. He worked for fifteen years in private practice, first in Abbeville, LA, before moving to Baton Rouge. In 1981 he began a twenty-two year career as an architect for the State of Louisiana until retiring in 2002. He has been Secretary and President of the Tomeny-owned, Belle Grove Plantation for many years.
He loved the Lord Jesus, was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and frequently attended Daily Mass. He enjoyed bringing the Gospel message to the incarcerated at Hunt Correctional Center and has been a faithful supporter of the Family Missions Company since its founding. He was an avid sailor of his 40-foot sailboat, Irish Rose, and has enjoyed boating all his life. He was an avid world-traveler and loved all things Irish, having Grandparents who emigrated from Ireland in the 1880's.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Frank O. Tomeny and Hazel Normand Tomeny, parents-in-law Roy and Rosemary Inness, his older brothers Frank Jr., and Michael, and sisters-in-law Susie Tomeny and Deane Inness.
He is survived by his sister Nell Hymel, his younger brother Timothy Tomeny and wife, Annell, brothers-in-law Roy Inness, Jr. (Ret-AF), and Phillip Gautreaux, and sisters-in-law Robbi Lee Tomeny, and Susan Gautreaux. He is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews and their numerous children. He has been surrounded by love from Elmer Thomas his whole life.
He married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Inness, in 1962. They recently celebrated fifty-three years of marriage. They have five children, Patrick Jr., a physician in Tampa Bay, Jody, a teacher in Arizona, Courtney, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Tricia, an occupational therapist, and Brennan, a graduate of Colorado State in finance. Pat has eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Patrick Jr. and wife Nelly are the parents of Nathalie, Patrick III, Andrea, Br. Matthew MIC, Claire, John Paul, Mary, Joseph, Mark, and Joshua. Nathalie and her husband, Dr. Trevor Stefanski, live in Richmond, VA, and have three children, Jack, Cory, and a baby girl due in two weeks. Patrick III, a senior at the University of Florida Medical School and his wife, Elise, have three-month old Patrick IV.
Jody is married to Tony Mayer and is the mother of three children, Madison (Ensign, Navy), Christian, Emily Elizabeth, and two step-children, Courtney and Shane.
Courtney and her husband Dennis Raffray are the parents of two sons, Ryan and Dylan.
Tricia and her husband, Michael Donahue, are the parents of two daughters, Caroline and Molly.
Brennan has one son, Cayleb.
Religious services will held this Friday, August 14, 2015, at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville, LA, beginning at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM.
