Patrick Bernard Martinez, Sr. was born in Belle Alliance, Louisiana on March 10, 1939. He left us peacefully on February 10, 2021 from his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he lived most of his life and where he raised his family.
Patrick graduated from Donaldsonville High School then worked numerous jobs while supporting a growing family and earning a bachelor’s degree from Nicholl’s State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Continuing with his ambitious drive, Patrick worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service, for over 50 years. He was an accomplished investigator and was admired by his colleagues. Patrick loved to coach his kids’ sports teams and watch his grandkids play sports, telling Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes, time on the water fishing and especially visiting with his brothers, sisters, and many nephews and nieces. Patrick was a devoted husband who loved his wife and kids dearly.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Berthelot Martinez from Pierre Part, Louisiana and four children Daina Martinez Hebert (late husband Todd) and grandchildren Victoria Elizabeth and Eric Todd, Jr., Tricia Martinez Aiken (Mike) and grandchildren Nicholas Michael and William Patrick, Nicole Martinez Magee (Robbie) and grandchildren Jacob Lee and Matthew Cole, and Patrick B. Martinez, Jr. and grandchildren Christian Paul and Reid Alexander; brothers Larry Martinez, Huey Martinez and Tony Martinez and sisters Ivy Mae Martinez Murrill, Virginia Martinez Bernard and Isabelle Martinez Klein; and, many loving nieces and nephews. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Martinez and Virginia Ruiz Martinez, and sisters Marina Imphang, Anna Mae McGowan, Dorothy Glenn, Thelcla Davenport and Hilda Chatham.
Funeral mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 16, 2021 at noon followed by burial at St. George.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Magee, Matthew Magee, Christian Martinez, Eric Hebert, Nicholas Aiken, Reid Martinez and William Aiken.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice In His Care, especially Stephanie, Dremia, Yvonne and Deacon Mike who all tenderly cared for Patrick.
