Pamela Canty

April 9, 1951 — February 25, 2017

Pamela Ann Shannon Canty, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on February 25, 2017.

Pam was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on April 9, 1951. She graduated from Meridian High School and attended Mississippi State University. She was a proud member of the Junior Auxiliary of Columbia, Mississippi, where she served as President. She was a sports fan and could always be found cheering on her Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, and in recent years, the LSU Tigers! Her jobs included church day care worker, medical records transcriptionist, and church secretary, but most of her life was spent as a homemaker. She often accompanied her husband, Glenn, on work trips around Mississippi and the Gulf Coast, and followed her son, Wade, to his many, many ball games and sports road trips, beginning with little league, all the way through his college years at Delta State University. Known as "Mama Canty" to many, she was always good for a laugh, a hug, or a batch (or two) of chocolate chip cookies. Pam lived life to its fullest, and made friends wherever she went, including bathroom lines, gas stations, and restaurants! She loved the outdoors, and favorite vacation spots always included the lake or the beach. Her love for her family was evident, as she and Glenn had settled in Baton Rouge to be near Wade and his family. While Glenn, Wade, and Megan were at work, and James and Lily were in school, Pam (also known as GAP or GAPPY to the children) spent most of her time with her "best buddy", youngest granddaughter, Claire ("Claire Bear").

She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Glenn Canty; Son, Wade Canty and wife Megan Canty; Sisters: Judy Buckley and husband Ed Buckley, Cindy Von Edwins and husband Steve Von Edwins, and Debbie Carney and husband Dr. Tim Carney; Brother-in-law, Rick Canty and wife Linda Canty; Grandchildren: James Mills, Lily Mills, and Claire Canty; Nieces: Kim St. Martin and husband Marty St. Martin, Shelley Wood and husband Chad Wood, Jennifer Landrum and husband Nathan Landrum, and Tamara Canty; Nephews: Brenton Buckley and wife Sarah Buckley, Dr. Brad Von Edwins and wife Amy Von Edwins, Joseph Von Edwins, George (Alex) Von Edwins, Dr. Daniel Carney and wife Macie Carney, and Christopher Carney; Great Nieces and Nephews: Chandler Wood, Kennedy Wood, Jake Wood, Mercedes Buckley, Reese Buckley, Kirsten Buckley, Josh St. Martin, Emily St. Martin, Allison St. Martin, Colin Von Edwins, Rory Von Edwins, Garrison Landrum, and Emma Landrum.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Ann Shannon.
