Mr. Orlen M. (Milton) Sealand, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA for the last several years and previously, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge,TN, died peacefully on February 1st, 2021, at the home of his daughter. Milton was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Daume Sealand. He is survived by four children: Anne Sealand Ansell (Mike) of Baton Rouge, LA; William Sealand (Carolyn) of Moncks Corner, SC; Orlen Sealand of Snellville, GA and Leta Sealand Beets (Wally) of Clinton, TN, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Born April 20th, 1924 in Marianna, AR to Orlen and Margie Sealand, he was the second of seven children. They all preceded him in death. His family moved to Hickory Valley, TN where he graduated from County High School, Grand Junction, TN.
Enlisting in the Army, Milton served with the 275th Field Artillery Battalion in Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart with cluster and Bronze Star Medals during his WWII service.
On June 7th, 1950, Milton married Marjorie Daume at St. Mary’s Church in Savannah TN. They moved to Knoxville, TN where he attended the University of Tennessee. They later moved to Oak Ridge, where Milton was employed with Union Carbide. He worked in the Health Physics and Environmental Sciences Divisions of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, retiring in 1989.
Milton was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, being inducted in 1956. During his years in Baton Rouge, Milton faithfully attended St. George Catholic Church and Istrouma Baptist Church, until the Pandemic. He greatly enjoyed attending his Men’s Bible Study group at Istrouma, as well as participating in their GoDay community ministry. He loved Jesus and he loved people, especially his family.
In earlier years, Milton was actively involved with his children and the Oak Ridge community, through his participation in Boy Scouts and numerous youth sports activities. After retiring from ORNL, he spent several days per week volunteering at his church and with the Holiday Bureau and Santa’s Workshop. Milton enjoyed Tennessee Volunteer athletics, Atlanta Braves Baseball and any sport his children, grandchildren & great- grandchildren were playing. At 96 he often attended his Louisiana great-grandson’s fall baseball games!
He declined in health in recent months, though he still continued to do what he could to take care of himself and help out. He was a kind, quiet-spoken man, who was dearly loved by his family and became endeared to all who were acquainted with him.

The excellent nurses and his aide of St. Joseph’s Hospice, as well as his sitter and the owner of Serenity Private Care in Baton Rouge, also deserve our thanks and gratitude for the outstanding care given to our Father.
Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Oak Ridge, TN, but at a later date to be determined due to COVID-19.
