Opal T. Wax Cuevas passed away peacefully at her residence in Walker, La. on Saturday, January 20, 2018. She was 87 years old. Opal began her career at the telephone company in Hammond when she met and married the love of her life, Buddy Cuevas. She moved to Baton Rouge where together they raised 7 children. She went to work at J. C. Pennys and then on to A&P Grocery working in the meat department until retiring. Opal loved everyone she met and would go out of her way to lend a hand. She enjoyed working in her yard, taking care of her animals and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her 3 sons Kenneth and wife, Marian of Loganville Ga., Paul and wife, Beth of Merryville, LA, and Roger and wife, Gail of Denham Springs LA; her 4 daughters, Denise Kleese of Fort Smith AR, Janice Morrissette and husband, Donald of Walker LA, Anne Passman of Denham Springs LA, and Amy Parrott and husband, Joel of Livingston La; her brother, Elwin Wax of Ponchatoula La; her brother-in-law George Myers of Ponchatoula La; her 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Opal is preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Lavigne, her father Houston Wax; her step-father, Sidney Lavigne; her husband Kenneth C. Cuevas, Sr.; her sister, Mona Meyers; and her sister-in-law, Pat Wax.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 12:00 pm until funeral services at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
