Opal Fay White Bauerle, 79, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Opal was born Sept. 30, 1930, to Wise White and Zora Compton White in Hammond. She married Gene Bauerle on Dec. 24, 1948. Opal was a member at Southside Baptist Church in Denham Springs. Her family has resided in Hammond, Bogalusa, Houma and most recently in Baton Rouge where she lived for the last 32 years. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Feb. 22, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. James Hollingsworth. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gene Bauerle two daughters, Cathy Callegan, of Gonzales, and Connie McBee and husband Randy, of Milan, Tenn. three granddaughters, Shannon Callegan, St. Amant, Shay Callegan, Gonzales, and Jackie Ryder, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. grandson, Justin Cagle, of Milan two greatgranddaughters, Emily Long Callegan and Amelia Garvin, Gonzales and two greatgrandsons, Tony and Michael Mills, of Oglethorpe. Opal is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Harper, of Hammond, and Lucille Lewis, of Amite as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and very special friends. Opal was preceded in death by her parents two brothers, Jim White and Ogden White and two sisters, Lillian Landry and Zelda DeHaan.
