O'Neil Joseph Parenton, Jr. passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the age of 68. O’Neil was born on July 27, 1955 in his beloved hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans and furthered his education at LSU and the Southern University Law Center, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.
O'Neil built an impressive 38-year career as an attorney, advocating for his clients and serving as an Assistant District Attorney. O'Neil's greatest joy came from his family. He was a proud and devoted husband, father, and grandfather always providing unwavering support, guidance, and love.
O’Neil is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lisa Savoie Parenton; children O’Neil “Jay” Parenton, III (Stephanie), Jenna L. Parenton, Brian G. Parenton (Carly); grandchildren Eva Parenton, O’Neil Parenton, IV, and Jon William Parenton; siblings Pat Parenton (Joell), Peggy Reilly (Woods), Marianne Cuntz (Warren), Mickey Parenton (Christine), Kelly Parenton (Juanita), and Shawn Haddad (Charlie); and 74 nieces, nephews, and greats.
O’Neil is preceded in death by his parents O’Neil Joseph Parenton, Sr. and Peggy McDermott Parenton, his brothers Tommy Parenton and Timmy Parenton, and his niece Cailyn Parenton.
Visitation will take place at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10am to 12pm, followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Garden of Peace, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in O'Neil's name to the ALS Association or Team Gleason Foundation.
The Parenton family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to Dr. Stephen Kantrow and the ALS team at Ochsner New Orleans for their exceptional care and support during O'Neil's illness, as well as the staff of the Pulmonary Care Unit at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
