Oliver Wendell Markland, Jr.
Oliver Wendell Markland, Jr., age 86, who was a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015.
Oliver was retired from the Army after 20 years of service and retired from Sears after 30 years of service. He was also a past commander of Post 38 in the American Legion.
Oliver is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Phoebe Markland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie Marie and Bryan Howard, and Stephanie Jayne and Rob Holder; seven grandchildren, Christopher Bryan, Andrew Thomas, Katie Marie, and Hannah Elizabeth Howard, Drew Oliver, Abby Lou, and Sara Jayne Holder; three great-grandchildren, Paisley Marie Howard, Matthew Oliver and Mark Alexander Holder; step-mother, Flora Markland; and cousin, Gloria Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Allie Markland, Sr.; and grandparents, T.P. and Sarah George, and Ira and Jessie Markland.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visiting hours will resume on Monday, February 16, 2015, from 12:00 PM until time of service.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015, at Resthaven Funeral Home at 2:00 PM.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Executive Board of the American Legion Nicholson Post 38.
Interment will take place at a National Cemetery at a later date.
