Ohnte Huffmaster, age 92, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Ohnte was born on May 17, 1932, to Norman and Lois Durbin. She graduated from Istrouma High School going on to a fulfilling career at Exxon Chemical before spending many happily retired years.
She enjoyed rounds of ladies golf, gardening, and playing bridge, but nothing meant more to her than her beloved friends, neighbors, family, and her husband of 55 years, William Huffmaster Jr. whom she lost three years ago. Her commitment to assisting her husband with his health and mobility challenges was an example of grace and steadfastness to us all. She was also admired by her unwavering faith in the sovereignty and goodness of God.
Ohnte is survived by her sister, Lou Magee of Baton Rouge. Although she never had children of her own, she was a devoted Aunt to many nieces and nephews and was fondly referred to simply as “Aunt T”: Linda Bankston, Ned Durbin, Sheryl Carbo, Dawson Durbin, Kenneth Pinell, Lea Ann Wolf, Cynthia Duck, Connie Phillips, Allison McNemar, Don Nichols, Justin Nichols, and Chip Magee. Along with several family members on Bill’s side. Her influence will never be forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings, Eldridge Durbin, Carrie Nell Pinell, and Fay Nichols.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, with a reception afterwards at Resthaven, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Shriners Hospital in Houston, TX
The family of Ohnte wishes to extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to LaMeshia Harvey and Lola Ducote. They tenderly took care of her during her final days and fell in love with Aunt T, just as everyone who met her.
