Odrie Ortego

Odrie Ortego, 88, a native of Grand Prairie, LA and a resident of Prairieville, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Odrie is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean Fontenot Ortego; his children, Kenneth Odrie Ortego, Karen Ortego LaCroix, Konnie Ortego Wren, Kevin Mark and wife Gwen York Ortego, and Kristina Ortego Thibodeaux. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon Paul LaCroix and wife Melissa, Ashley LaCroix Bourgeois and husband Ray, Lane Dyson Pate, Corey James Thibodeaux, and Kevin Mark, Connor Odrie, Lindsay Marie, Madeline York, and Matthew Thomas Ortego; as well as his great grandchildren, Ray Howard, Abigail Michelle, and Joseph Odrie Bourgeois. Other survivers include his sister-in- law, Ruby Ortego and numerous nieces and nephews. Odrie was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Thelma Roberie Ortego, his brothers Ervin and Sanford, his sister and brother in law, Batilde and Russell Lafleur, as well as his in-laws, Stephen and Leola Fontenot, and Leo and Versie Fontenot. Odrie was a graduate of Grand Prairie High School and Louisiana State University. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Army with the 28th General Hospital Division during the Korean Conflict. Upon graduation from LSU in 1957, Odrie was employed by the University, serving in many positions, for 30 years. While at LSU, he supported many organizations. He retired as the Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs in 1987. In his early years, Odrie was a active member of St. George Parish serving as a volunteer accountant for both the church and school. He was also a member of the first Parish Council, President of the Home and School Association, and a member of the Usher's Society, Men's Club and Knights of Columbus Council 4030. Odrie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose favorite hobby was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a strong and abiding faith in God and he will be truly missed by all. Visitation will be at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Friday, July 27th from 8:00-11:00 with funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 am. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brandon LaCroix, Lane Pate, Corey Thibodeaux, Connor Ortego, Matthew Ortego, and Ray Bourgeois, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Braud, Pat Landry, Dr. James Wharton, Richard Brock, Dale Blank, Doug Opendahl and George Schexnayder.
