Nina Faye Patten Swillie, 91, widow of Earnest Swillie, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Emerald Gardens Assisted Living in Greenwood, SC.
Born October 12, 1932, in Wisner, LA, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Carrie Reed Patten. She graduated from Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge, LA and worked as a office manager. Nina was a former resident of Baton Rouge, LA, and has made her home in Greenwood since 2005.
She was a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church and the Carpenter Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. She also volunteered with Hospice Care of the Piedmont where she was the recipient of the “Volunteer of the Year” in 2014.
Nina was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She cherished the basic things in life including being a partner in a wonderful marriage for 65 years. She enjoyed seeing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren share the joys of family life. She loved observing the beauty of nature and making a warm and inviting home. She was a compassionate and caring person who had a special love for children and senior adults. Her hobbies were camping, and playing cards with her friends.
Surviving are two children, Donna Firmin and husband Jim of Greenwood, SC and Will Swillie and wife Megan of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren, Matthew Firmin and wife Nicole of Laurens, SC, Jennifer Rogers and husband Will of Summerville, SC, Connor Swillie, Kathyrn Swillie and Caroline Swillie of Baton Rouge, LA; and two great-grandchildren, Jack Firmin and Thomas Rogers.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 5, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
