Nikolaus Smith

A native of Baton Rouge, Nikolaus Lane 'Nik' Smith, 20, died in his home on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. He was attending Louisiana Technical Welding School and anticipating the birth of a daughter. He is survived by his natural parents, Christopher Dale Smith Sr. and Kim Lane Cooper; stepfather, Wayne Cooper; companion to Dale, Vickie Deaton; a brother, Christopher Dale Smith Jr.; stepbrother and close friend, Devin Cooper; grandparents, Thomas and Ann Harvey and James J.D. and Sharon Lane; great-grandmother, Velma Pierce; uncles, Ricky Smith, Danny Smith and George Smith; aunts, Nonnie Hilburn, Kristy Stewart and Karmon Sharer; cousins, Lindsey Spillers, Briyden Spillers, Tucker Sharer, Taylor Sharer, Chrissie Smith, Daniel Smith, Jason Smith and Sarah Smith; and girlfriend, Brooke Hartman. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dick Smith and Helen Mott Smith; great-grandparents, Willie C. Reeves, Katie Carter, Mervin J. Carter and Ralph Lane; and uncle, David Smith. Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith, Eddie Sharer, Mike Spillers, Lonnie Bennet, Jacob Kees, Austin Keynon, Devin Cooper and Chris King. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Brad A. McKenzie. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
