Nicole Wacquant Passman

April 25, 1931 — May 7, 2024

Prairieville, Louisiana

Nicole Wacquant Passman was born on April 25, 1931, in Bethlanville, France to Paul Roger Wacquant and Reine Elisabeth Hazard Wacquant.  She passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 93.  After graduating high school, she and her sister moved to Paris, France for work, where she was employed in the medical field and as an au pair.  It was at this time that she met and fell in love with Billy Ray Passman, who was serving in the United States Air Force.

They came to the United States, moving to Franklinton, Louisiana.  Nicole always felt close to home in Louisiana, embracing the small-town life, as it reminded her of the villages of France.  Her children have fond memories of her teaching French to them, a tradition that she shared through several generations.

Nicole is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 31 years; her brother, Michel Wacquant; and her son, Gary Ray Passman.   She is survived by her daughters, Christine Hollister and her husband Darrell, Patricia P. DeRouen and her husband Marc; and her son Patrick Passman and his wife Toni; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Nicole is also survived by her sisters Rolande Merault, Jeannette Hascote and Marie Claire Duroi; and her brother+ Patrick Wacquant, all of France; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.

Nicole had a giving heart and spent countless hours volunteering her time to those less fortunate, whether assuring they had clothing or full bellies of food, she always put others first. She was very active in her church, First Baptist of Gonzales, and participated in several church trips and outings. Her love of travel included many trips home to France and vacations in Maine.  She was always ready and willing to jet-set across the globe!

Above and beyond all of this, family is what mattered most to Nicole.  She loved her children, and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world.  We, her ‘mon chou-chous’ will forever cherish memories of her in the kitchen, “Ma Mere” singing French nursery rhymes, her fondness for solitaire and mahjong and the hours spent watching videos of kittens and puppies on YouTube.
