Nelda Marie Hale Shamburger, 82, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018. She was born on May 18, 1936, in Lumberton, Mississippi, where she grew up on her parent's farm. She graduated from Lumberton High School where she was an all-around athlete, cheerleader, and homecoming queen. After completing cosmetology certification at Pearl River College, she began her married life in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She later moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, then to Lake Jackson, Texas, and back to Baton Rouge.
She was known for her compassion and devotion to others, especially in their times of need. She leaves a legacy of love for the Lord, allegiance to our country, and passion for all things LSU. Nelda's interests included Bible studies, bridge, bowling, cooking, decorating, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, "Jake" and Vada Hale.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Billy George Shamburger; daughters Lisa Shamburger Dryden and Karen Shamburger Ryne (husband Wallace); grandchildren Laura and Austin Tyrone (wife Hannah), Kayela, Lacey, and Halee Jenkins, and Madison Dryden.
Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 10:00 AM, and the service will follow at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Austin Tyrone, Wallace Ryne, Rex Cochran, Greg Brumfield, Perry Tate, and Harlan Wales. Honorary pallbearer is Phil Mourot.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the March of Dimes or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
