Nathan Edelmann

July 26, 1933 — November 30, 2010

A Baton Rouge native and resident passed away on Tuesday, November 30 at The Carpenter House of St Josephs Hospice after a 4 year courageous battle with cancer at the age of 77. He was a graduate of Catholic High School class of 1948 and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. He was a competitive diver in the USMC. By trade he was a cable splicer with South Central Bell and retired after a successful career in construction sales. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church. He was devoted to his wife of 53 years, Norma McDonough Edelmann who remained at his side with devotion during his illness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was loved dearly by his family and his best friend My Brother Ray. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, December 3, 2010 from noon until a memorial service at 2pm conducted by Rev. Mike Schatzle. Private military inurnment will be at 3pm Saturday in the Newellton Cemetery in Newellton, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife Norma Edelmann, daughter Dana Raines and husband Tim of Prairieville, son and namesake Nathan James Edelmann Jr Jay and wife Dana of Jefferson, son Alan Dawes of Baton Rouge, brother Ernest Ray Edelmann and wife Joy of Watson, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernice and John Edelmann, sisters Madeline Aucoin, Peggy Barcelona, Myrtice Sis Shanley, Anna Bea Edelmann and brother John Edelmann Jr. Nathan was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, camping and watching sports of all kinds. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Hanson of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and The Carpenter House staff for their excellent care.
