Nancy Mire Mascaro passed away peacefully Friday, May 4, 2012, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge at the age of 98. Born on March 24, 1914 at the Coontrap Road residence in Gonzales, she was the daughter of Felicien and Essie Gautreau Mire. She was one of nine siblings. Nancy loved her country cousins who teased her by calling her Nanny Goat. She rode a horse bareback. She became a city girl when her parents moved to the Gentilly area of New Orleans. Nancy spent summers at Lake Pontchartrain. Her father, an engineer, manned the pumping station while her mother ran Mires Grocery. Nancy graduated from McDonough High School and loved to dance with her sweetheart Arnold at Lenfants on the lakefront. Nan and Arnold married and raised six children. At age 38 she began work as secretary to the Chief of the Classifications Division, Department of Civil Service, and retired at age 62. Nancy was active at St. Louis King of France Church and was Regent of Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Charles, from 1971 to 1973. Mother loved Jesus, the Catholic Church, and Father Maynard Hurst Tippy. Her grandchildren adored her because she played games with them, let them spend the night, and didnt mind if they climbed a tree. She never missed a christening, communion, confirmation or birthday. Being a good sport, she went on many vacations with her children and grandchildren. Survived by five children, Sandra Mascaro Azar, Arnold Mascaro, Jr. and wife Janet, Peggy Ellen Mascaro, Wendy Rose Mascaro, David Paul Mascaro and wife Kathy 10 grandchildren, David Azar, Jr.and wife Nancy, Robin Azar Matthews and husband Robert, Craig Azar and wife Belinda, Christian Azar, Jennifer Mascaro, Jason Anderson and wife Marvet, Josh Mascaro, Justin Mascaro, Samantha Mascaro, Dr. Nathan Mascaro and wife Jennifer 13 great grandchildren and one sister Barbara Mire Rogers. Preceded in death by her parents, Felicien and Essie G. Mire husband Arnold John Mascaro, Sr., and son Gary Joseph Mascaro. Visitation will be held at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 9 am until religious services at 11 am. Burial to be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
